Professional Triathlete

Headed West

I promised myself I wasn't going to make a big deal out of my upcoming life change but a few people have caught on or asked and so it's made the rounds. Yep, Lucy and I are headed to Colorado!

A few weeks ago I was given the opportunity to move to my company's headquarters in Boulder. Personally, it's a killer career move and at the same time hard to resist knowing how many good friends and blog friends and triathlete friends (not to mention blog friends turned real friends) live out in Colorado. Plus, you can swim outside while there's snow on the ground—revolutionary.

I will not go into a ton of detail but over the past few years, I've been out to Boulder 5 or 6 times and it always spoke to me. As a kid, I was the daredevil skier who begged my parents to let me live with a foster family in Steamboat so I could become a professional skier. I also applied to my current company over a year ago, knowing in the back of my mind that Boulder very much was a possibility.

It was a hard decision. Asheville has and always will be a second home to me. I will not be selling my house that I bought (doh!) this past July, opting to rent it instead. I'm sure I'll be back at some point. But this entire year something has always felt missing and so I'm off to Colorado to see if I can find it.

And so it's now happening! I will be traveling light and only bringing myself and the essentials, which currently includes 1 dog, 3 bikes, a ton of triathlon gear and whatever else can fit in the back of my car. Everything else will be living at my parent's house for the foreseeable future.

Per usual, Lucy is putting up with my antics and the first weekend in February the two of us will travel from one continental divide to another.
